General Test Procedure (GTP) for Weight per mL

PURPOSE

To lay down the procedure for weight per ml.

INSTRUMENTATION

Pycnometer

Thermometer

REAGENTS

PROCEDURE

• Take a clean and dry Pycnometer to weigh (W1).
• Fill the Pycnometer with recently boiled and cooled water at 25⁰C and weigh the contents. The weight of 1ml of water at 25⁰C in the air is 0.99602 g.

• Calculate the capacity of the Pycnometer. Using the formula.

• Adjust the temperature of the liquid being examined, to about 20⁰C and fill the Pycnometer with it. Adjust the temperature of the filled Pycnometer to 25⁰C, remove any excess of liquid, and weigh W3. Calculate the Weight per ml using the formula.
